Jesus and Divorce (Mark 10:1 - Micah 10:12)

Part of the Mission Impossible? (Mark) series, preached at a Sunday Morning service

As we continue in the gospel of Mark we encounter one of these hard sayings. Jesus has just finished teaching the crowds in Mark 10:1 when the Pharisees seek to force him in a corner. They bring up the issue of divorce and Jesus' response is nothing what they expected. Jesus lifts marriage to a much higher level and shows how meaningful marriage is to God. Marriage isn't cheap. "What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate." As we'll see, Jesus' teaching not only addresses divorce, but remarriage as well. How are we to think about these things in our day? Can he really be teaching this?
